Harken ILCA Vang System – Maximum Control and Exceptionally Smooth Adjustment

The Harken ILCA Vang System 1253.ILCA has been designed to provide racing sailors with precise and highly efficient vang adjustment. By using larger Zircon and Fly blocks, friction within the system is significantly reduced while load capacity is increased – even under heavy loads or demanding racing conditions.

All components are perfectly matched and engineered to work together seamlessly. This allows the vang system to respond faster and more directly to trim adjustments while minimizing energy loss when the system is under load.

Vang Base – Lightweight and Structurally Strong

The vang base is approximately 21% lighter than the previous version and is manufactured from a glass-fiber reinforced nylon composite, the same material used in Harken’s Carbo blocks.

The structure has been specifically designed with optimized material thickness along the load paths. This creates an excellent balance between low weight and high structural strength, ensuring consistent performance and long-term durability.

Middle Block – Zircon Twisted Fiddle Block 29/18 mm

In traditional vang systems, double blocks can sometimes rotate slightly under load. This may cause the sheaves to become misaligned, resulting in the control line rubbing against the side plates.

The 29/18 mm Zircon Twisted Fiddle Block, engineered with a 45° twist, remains perfectly aligned under load. This reduces friction and improves the overall efficiency of the system. In racing situations where precise vang control is critical, this design offers a clear performance advantage.

Upper Block – Securely Mounted in the Boom

The system features the first Fly aluminum block specifically used in an ILCA vang system.

The block is secured with a specially designed vang key, ensuring that it remains correctly positioned inside the boom even when the vang is not under tension, such as during gusts or when sailing on reaching angles.
